Liquid error (sections/article line 23): invalid url input

To celebrate to 50th Super Bowl this year, the NFL is highlighting 19 Super Bowl rematches in the 2015 regular season. In Week 1, the Miami Dolphins face the Washington Redskins in a rematch of their first championship meeting in Super Bowl VII.

SUPER BOWL VII
After losing Super Bowl VI a year earlier, Don Shula’s Dolphins were determined to get back in 1972. After starting QB Bob Griese went down in the 5th game of the season, 17-year veteran Earl Morrall stepped in and helped Miami run the table into Super Bowl VII.

Despite their perfect regular season record, the Miami was 3 point underdogs to the Washington. Facing a Redskins squad led by QB Bill Kilmer, Shula opted to start a healthy Griese over Morrall.

Quarterback controversies aside, it was the Dolphins defense that stepped up. Safety Jake Scott caught 2 interceptions and earned MVP.

The Dolphins won Super Bowl VII 14-7, securing their 17th straight victory and the first-ever undefeated season in the NFL.
