Welcome Home to SunTrust Park, Walter Banks
In 2017, the Atlanta Braves will be welcomed home to their new digs at SunTrust Park. The move doesn’t come without reflection of who’s been along for the ride on the fields, or in the stands. Walter Banks, a beloved Usher, and walking textbook of Atlanta baseball knowledge, might know this history better than anyone.
A celebrity in his own right, Walter is much more than just a familiar face to the players, staff, fans and visitors of a Braves ball game. Since joining the staff in 1965, he has embodied southern hospitality –– treating anyone seated in section 107 like family.
And it’s not just longevity that has sealed Walter’s fate in the hearts of those who encounter him – it’s his warmth, passion, astute intellect, and magnetic attitude that inevitably make an impression.
As we stood together in SunTrust Park, Walter seemed in awe of his soon-to-be digs. We listened to his stories and felt exactly what his colleagues said we would –– like family. Meet Walter:
At ’47, we have a passion for sharing the stories of remarkable individuals in sport. Baseball came into Walter’s life at an early age and has never left. Seen and felt in the commentary of colleagues, it’s obvious that the Braves are lucky to have him as a member of the team.
