Behind The Scenes With Bryce Harper
Earlier this summer, the ’47 team traveled to Philadelphia to spend the day with Bryce Harper. The Phillies’ first baseman, sure-fire hall of famer and sports icon is the face of ‘47’s new collaboration with Carhartt.
On a blazing hot afternoon in South Philly, we talked with Bryce about how he uses hats to complete his look away from the field, his real connection to both ’47 and to Carhartt, and how this collaboration is perfect for the city where he goes to work every single day.

47: Your day job aside, anyone who has seen your tunnel fits or social media content knows that you really are a “hat guy.” Tell us what you look for in a new hat:
Bryce Harper: Craftsmanship in the hat is huge. Being able to know what type of material you’re putting on your head, knowing the fit, and understanding how it’s going to mold to your head is important. I feel like this ’47 hat right here that I’m wearing (the Philadelphia Phillies Carhartt ’47 Hitch) is very premium, very high quality, and I really enjoy it. You can wear it on a date night or wear it out in general.
I love getting new hats. I love pulling them out of the box and feeling the material. There are some hats you can wear forward, some hats you wear backwards. Being able to have a hat that does both is huge for me.
47: You are a style-conscious guy. Talk about what role a hat plays in your approach to your personal style.
BH: The hat’s the last thing you put on, right? Anytime that you’re able to put on that last accessory and walk out the door feeling good is awesome. Having a great hat always makes you feel good; there’s nothing better.
Being able to have a hat that finishes the mold of what you’re doing that day is awesome. You walk into your closet, grab the hat after you put your outfit on, and look in the mirror and say, (Bryce grabs the brim of hat, imitating what he would do in mirror, examining it) “Oh yeah, that looks good.” Then walking right out is great. This particular one that I am wearing is a hat that I can wear forward or backwards throughout the day.

47: Tell us about your connection to ’47.
BH: There are a lot of things to love about ’47. I love all of their products. The way their hats are crafted, the way they are made, the way they look. They just do an excellent job.
I wear a lot of hats, especially on the field. But being able to have an off-the-field brand like ’47 that I can rely on is nice. Putting a hat on and feeling comfortable going out the door is awesome.
I love ‘47’s college lines. That’s probably my favorite. Being able to pick and choose which college hat I want to wear. Obviously, for me, it’s Ohio State a lot of the time, but being able to go on the web site and get new stuff is great.
47: We are here with you today in Philly to film for a campaign to promote our new ’47 collaboration with Carhartt. Carhartt is another brand that we know you have a real connection to.
BH: These hats just remind me of my dad to tell you the truth. He wore Carhartt while I was growing up and he was working. He was a rebar guy and worked iron for a long time. He was a big union guy and these hats remind me of coming home and seeing my dad in Carhartt. This brown color is a big-time construction colorway. It really reminds me a lot of my dad.
And this collab it works perfect here in this city, man. It represents the people of Philly, understanding the hard work of waking up every day and working 9 to 5, sometimes 5 to 1. It represents what people do in this city. What people do across the country, man. You know construction workers, firefighters, and everybody. It’s an incredible thing and this kind of collab works that way. People are going to really enjoy this.
