’47 ARCHIVE: Oklahoma State Cowboys
Founded as the Oklahoma Agricultural & Mechanical College in 1890, Oklahoma State University has come a long way since the Agriculturists era. Since then, OSU has been know as the Aggies, Farmers and Tigers before finally settling on the Cowboys.
The Cowboys’ spirit is led by the bobble-headed mascot, Pistol Pete and his official horse, Bullet. As one of the most iconic college mascots, Pistol Pete and Bullet rally the Stillwater supporters before every football game at Boone Pickens Stadium.
Oklahoma State has a well-rounded winning tradition with 50+ NCAA championships overall. Over the years, OSU has produced Olympic gold medalists and a diverse roster of star athletes such as Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas, Robin Ventura, Dez Bryant and Rickie Fowler.
OSU’s standing as a top collegiate program wouldn’t be complete without a heated rivalry. The interstate matchup between the Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners, known as “The Bedlam Series”, earned its name from the raucous crowds in attendance.
Since their first Big 12 Championship and BCS appearance in 2011, the Cowboys have emerged as an elite football program under coach Mike Gundy. Looking to continue their rise up the polls in 2015, OSU welcomes TCU to Stillwater on November 7th. One of the nation’s top contenders, TCU represents the toughest test yet for the Cowboys. ’47 will be there at Boone Pickens for one of the biggest games of the year.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys ’47 collection celebrates the Stillwater institution with an enduring dedication to community and competition.
