’47 Redesign Launches With Pratt Institute
Classic may always be chic, but a little innovation never hurts either. Self-expression and creativity have long been at the forefront for ’47, which is why we have launched ’47 Redesign, an ongoing collaborative platform for designers to offer their own reinterpretations of ’47’s licensed sportswear.
For ’47 Redesign’s inaugural project, we asked students from Pratt Institute’s “Deconstruct/Reconstruct” course to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces using deadstock ’47 apparel, accessories, and headwear.
Just as ’47 has been a pioneering sports lifestyle brand for over fifty years, Pratt Institute has served as a global leader in educating tomorrow’s artists, designers, architects, and more since 1887. With campuses In Brooklyn and Manhattan, Pratt Institute students are immersed in culture at every turn.
We encouraged them to reimagine ’47’s product in their own styles, to create looks that offered a new and contemporary take on our brand and demonstrated a strong personal vision. Of the 50 entries we received, five outstanding designers were chosen to design micro-collections inspired by ’47’s convergence of sports and lifestyle.
The finalists include Elle Quesada, who hails from Los Angeles and enjoys the whimsical flare fashion can create; Fiona Cole from Vermont, who has a focus on streetwear; Michaela Folcik of New Hampshire, who has an interest in sustainable production and textures; Jun Young Woo from South Korea, whose design encompasses the idea of armor and protection; and Utah’s Brittany Lovegrove, who took inspiration from halftime performers for her look.
Their work will be featured at the inaugural ’47 Redesign Runway Show at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, and will be judged by design duo CFDA/Vogue Fashion Finalists, Rochambeau, and Aluna Francis of the musical duo AlunaGeorge. The winning look will be displayed at ’47’s flagship store on Newbury Street in Boston, and the top three students will be awarded scholarships, courtesy of ’47. Rising designers are fashion’s future, and ’47 is thrilled to be working with Pratt Institute to bring their visions to the runway and beyond.
We look forward to sharing more exceptional work from the ’47 Redesign series soon!
